Member Spotlight – Krystal!

Each week, we’re going to highlight one of our amazing members here at CrossFit Yellow Rose. Our members all have some pretty incredible stories to tell, and we want to share them with the world!

For this edition of the spotlight, we called on Krystal! Krystal has been training with us for about 4 months after recently giving birth to her first child, Cairo! She’s gotten back into making fitness a weekly habit, and is seeing some awesome progress already! Check out our quick Q&A with Krystal!

Tell us a little about yourself in 5 sentences or less. Where are you from? Are you a parent? What are your hobbies? Anything unique about your life you want to share? (etc etc)
I was born and raised in H-town. I have been a pediatric nurse for going on 17 years (don’t try to guess my age, I’m old and youthful at the same time). I have been married for a little over 3 years. I have a beautiful 5 month old baby girl named Cairo and a 9 year old furry baby named Sasha. I also have a weird obsession for celebrity gossip, don’t judge me!
Why did you start CrossFit? What was life like before?
Ten years ago I made a commitment to myself to make exercise a regular routine in my life because somehow I had managed to gain a substantial amount of weight in college. In the process I lost 30 pounds, so I felt great! But about 4 years ago I found myself getting bored of going to the gym and wanted to take my fitness routine to another level. I had been researching CrossFit, decided to give it a try, and 4 years later I’m still at it!
How has life improved?
Overall, I feel great about myself and I’m physically stronger than I ever knew I was capable of.
What do you love most about Yellow Rose?
I love the dedication of the coaches to teach what they’re passionate about. I also love the CrossFit family community at CFYR, especially since just having a baby myself. I have met some great Moms here! What really made a difference for me is when I started back working out postpartum, I was able to bring my baby girl while I worked out and there was also other children there as well. It made me feel very comfortable and welcomed as a new Mom.
What would you tell someone on the fence about starting CrossFit?
I would tell them, just do it. There’s no need to be intimidated because every workout can be tailored to your fitness level and everyone is there to encourage one another. And lastly, with consistency you will get stronger over time, and surprise yourself….. it was one of the best decisions I ever made!
