It’s OK to not make progress.

It’s OK to not make progress.

I think the title of this post probably already gave away what I was going to touch on here, but there’s something that we all need to understand.

It’s 100% OK to not be “making progress” all the time.

What do I mean by making progress?

  • Losing weight
  • Increasing performance metrics
  • Losing inches
  • Hitting new PRs
  • Staying strict with a nutrition program
  • Or a general feeling like you “have it together” all the time

It’s very, very easy for us to get caught up in the phenomenon that if you aren’t improving, you are deteriorating. Instagram fitness accounts, bosses, and society in general are always trying to tell us that if you aren’t moving forward, you’re going backwards.

Let’s get that out of our heads right this instant.

You can not make progress every day, nor should you strive to.

Well, I suppose you can, but it will come to a grinding halt at some point. Day after day progress is not sustainable, and we’re in this fitness journey for life.

I mean, hell, there’s a reason why professional athletes have off seasons, right? They have to allow themselves to recharge, recoop, and get excited again about pushing themselves towards their next goal.

The tough part about the fitness journey for all of us is realizing that this is a life-long pursuit of health, and each year, we’re going to go through different seasons.

You might be in the pre-season right now where you’re excited about some serious training coming up and feeling fresh.
You might be in the midst of a grueling season, where you’re just trying to get from one day to the next.
You might have just finished an absolutely exhausting season, and all you want to do right now is coast.

And you know what?

We’re here to support you in every single one of your seasons.

All we need from you is a little communication so we know what season you’re in, and how you want to move forward.

So email me at [email protected], and let me know where you’re at with your training right now.

Are you feeling awesome and ready to push hard?
Are you in a holding pattern where attendance is the only goal?
Are you feeling pretty run down and burnt out?

You’re going to experience all of these feelings at some point, but we coaches are here to help you navigate each season and get you onto the next one.

As for me, attendance is my only goal right now. My fitness has entered a very “maintenance” phase as I’m trying to put more energy into tying up some loose areas with the business, honing in my golf game, and spending more time with technology in airplane mode so I can spend more genuine time with others.

It’s just a season, though.

When this season is up, I’ll be ready to push hard in my training. Until then, I’m just trying to get through the front door and get sweaty.

See you at the gym!
